Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was promoted to Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional Correspondent. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
